Global responsibility

BEM has been officially involved in global responsibility since 2004 through our participation in the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI) in association with the EFMD/UN Global Compact, and today we offer a new way of teaching Responsible Management.

Economic scandals, unexpected company relocations, integration of tax havens into group strategies which are sometimes disadvantageous for the host country... it has never seemed more necessary to adopt a more responsible mode of corporate management.

The UN is convinced that responsibility can be learned and that it must be encouraged systematically, not only in companies but also in schools. It has joined forces with the European organisation EFMD to select a pilot group of suitable establishments across the world. The aim of this initiative is to construct a platform on the theme of “globally responsible leadership”. In 2004, the UN and EFMD selected BEM along with other partners (companies and “grandes écoles”) from the 5 continents, to launch the “Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative” (GRLI).

Our objective: to demonstrate that it is possible, when learning about business and practising it, to combine economic performance, respect for consumers, employees and citizens, and to preserve the environment. And to achieve this we have to train the managers of tomorrow, today’s students and even today’s managers who are looking for innovation in these areas.

This procedure is structured around 4 themes

  • To develop a responsible teaching programme. BEM is determined to encourage teaching initiatives in all of the academic pole and Chairs in order to give students some perspective as to the role of a company and the contribution it can make to society
  • To participate in the advance of knowledge in “leadership and globally responsible management”. The BEM research centre, CEREBEM, is organised around three departments: "Business, Value and Responsibility", "Decision, Management and Performance" and "Creative Industries". All integrate GR issues into their work
  • To implement responsible practices. BEM encourages all stakeholders to be aware of the challenges of Global Responsibility and to develop practices consistent with sustainable development
  • To integrate the school into relevant networks. To stimulate ideas and improve our own techniques, BEM has strengthened its strategy of openness and exchange in relation to Global Responsibility, both at local and international levels
