Bordeaux and surrounding area

Bordeaux, departure point for Europe

Bordeaux is now officially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage sites confirming the city’s rich cultural and architectural heritage. It boasts one of the most beautiful ensembles in France of 18th century architecture .
The Bordeaux area has traditionally been known for offering a warm welcome and for enjoying life. The city has become famous down the centuries through its wines, its cooking, and also through the great works of many men of letters and wit who have been inspired by this region. In the 16th century, Michel de Montaigne, a famous philosopher, was Mayor of the city.

Economic pole position

Bordeaux is also a dynamic city, with sectors of activity based not only on the traditional wine sector but also on aeronautics and new technologies, in particular bio-materials and composites.

The wine-growing and wine-producing sector also represents a major employment basin with 66,000 jobs, 18,000 producers and a turnover of more than 2.5 billion euros.

Each year Bordeaux opens wide the doors of its 5,000 châteaux and its 60 wine cooperatives. The 57 Bordeaux appellations know how to make the most of the natural flavours of the regional gastronomy.

A region that is fortunate in its climate and its geography

With its temperate climate, which contributes in no small measure to the quality of the wines, students are attracted to the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean : Lacanau, the Arcachon Basin, Biscarosse and all the Landes coast where many surfing competitions are held.

The 18th edition of Surf’n Co organised by the school’s Gliss'n Co association was held last April at Seignosse Le Penon, in the Landes department.

From the snow-covered slopes in the Pyrenees to the pavement cafés in the Place Camille Jullian or the Place de la Victoire, the streets are always lively and have that warm and festive atmosphere of southern cities.
