Learning tools

Active teaching enables students to be confronted with real situations. Several learning tools have been developed by BEM to help students do just that:

Management simulation tools

Management simulation tools (or "Business Games" or "Company Games") give participants a high level of involvement as they are put into simulated yet realistic competitive contexts.

  • French Paradox

Created in 2002 by Pierre Mora, Marketing Professor at BEM, in this Business Game you are the manager of a wine-producing company in competition with three other companies in two markets. You have to increase you market share, develop your brands and, of course, be profitable.

  • JISEL (Jeu Informatique de Simulation d'une Entreprise Logistique) Logistics Simulation

JISEL was designed by P. Cazaban, professor of Global Logistics and produced by D. Gavril, project head at the Direction des Technologies de l'Information et de la Formation.

With JISEL, you can discover the world of Global Logistics by making decisions about supplies of raw materials, production of finished products and storage in distribution warehouses in a virtual industrial company.

  • “La Boîte”, 45 management tools

“La Boîte” is interactive software designed by Pierre Mora. It groups together 45 tools to work on four major areas: identity, marketing, finance and strategy. The aim is to enable the user to justify their arguments and help them build up a diagnostic dossier.

Trading Room, Finance on line and in real time

BEM has chosen to set up a real trading room, which currently has 5 work stations linked up to the Reuters server and to Internet to receive the Bloomberg data. It is also linked by telephone to Reuters "client support", just like a real professional trading room.

All BEM students are involved in this to some extent, although there are three levels of learning:

  1. Basic taught programme, in a lecture theatre, projecting a Reuters screen up on to a large screen
  2. Further study with real time access to financial markets, data analysis, pricing
  3. Expert level with sessions organised by Reuters trainers.

Team Project, a completely different teaching project

The T.E.A.M. (Travaux d'Entreprise pour l'Apprentissage du Management) project is an original and fundamental feature of the ESC Bordeaux educational project. The best moments are the work in groups and the technical and human experience that students gain (common goals and sharing results, conflict management, etc.).

  • Pro T.E.A.M. 1 – 1st year

Students work in groups of five on a problem area proposed by a company. When they have completed their market research, they put forward concrete recommendations that the company can apply.

  • Pro T.E.A.M. 2 – 2nd year

As well as making recommendations to the company, students are able to put what they have learned into practice with a specific objective, and the obligation to get results.

Each team can choose between organising an event or participating in a national or international inter-“Grandes Ecoles” and Business Schools competition.
