BEM trains responsible managers who are concerned about the world and how it evolves, and to be able to do this successfully involves the creation and dissemination of multidisciplinary knowledge. ICT makes a vital contribution to this essential need, first by helping teachers with their research in their particular field and with innovations in the classroom (creating case studies or management simulation tools, designing new courses), and second by facilitating the dissemination of this knowledge.
At BEM, ICT has long been a vital tool in the learning experience and, in fact, in the life of every student on a daily basis (from 1985, when BEM was the first academic institution in Europe to decide that every student should have their own laptop computer – and to realise therefore that the entire pedagogical project had to be revised for this new socio-technological context). Today, BEM uses educational technology to bring the whole world into the classroom, to create more interaction between students and the teaching material available for each course and to facilitate the dynamics of exchanges between actors in the different areas of teaching.
Information and Communication Technology is now seen as the ideal way to strengthen relations between students, teachers, the administration, graduates and the professional world. In a context of increased mobility on the part of students, the new "institutional portal" to be set up in 2008 will enable all those that contribute to the "BEM Community" to interact, wherever they are in the world, just as easily as they can every day on campus.
Here, the idea of integration means creating a global information system capable of bringing together all data and documents needed in academic life, in relations and in the institution, and to facilitate their distribution to everyone concerned. This system is based on a unique database and web technology, and includes all operational activity in the School so that, for example, at any time and wherever they are, all students can consult their timetable or their personal file (details of grades, complement to their diploma, etc.).
